Jordan B. Peterson Biography
Jordan Peterson was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, in June 1962. He is an associate professor at the University of Toronto and graduated from Alberta and McGill University. Peterson was previously a professor at McGill University as well as Harvard University. Peterson has written two books: 1999’s “Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief” and 2018’s “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos in 2018”. Peterson also hosts his podcast, the Jordan B. Peterson Podcast. He developed The Self Authoring Suite, a program for writing therapy.
The capacity and the potential of humanity to do evil and destruction slowly started troubling him, prompting him to read the works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Friedrich Nietzsche and Carl Jung. He returned to the University of Alberta and studied psychology. He eventually earned a B.A. degree in 1984.
He moved from Montreal in 1985 and continued his studies at McGill University from where he received a PhD in clinical psychology in 1991 under the supervision of Robert O. Pihl. The title of his dissertation was “Potential psychological markers to explain the risk of alcohol dependence. Then he worked alongside Pihl and Maurice Dongier till June 1993 as a postdoctoral scientist at McGill’s Douglas Hospital.
