In this blog post, I am going to explain the novella Homecoming – John Grisham.
John Grisham is a renowned author known for his expertise in legal thrillers. In his latest collection of novellas, he continues to showcase his writing skills in the genre that made him famous. Although law is the common thread throughout the book, Grisham offers several surprises that will keep readers on the edge of their seats.
The first novella, “Homecoming,” takes us back to the fictional setting of Ford County, where many of Grisham’s stories are based. Jake Brigance, a character from Grisham’s books that many people know, is asked to help an old friend, Mack Stafford, who used to be a lawyer in Clanton. Three years earlier, Mack disappeared after stealing money from his clients, divorcing his wife, filing for bankruptcy, and abandoning his family. However, he resurfaces and seeks help from his old friends, Jake and Harry Rex, to return to his hometown. But things do not go as planned, and the homecoming turns out to be far from what Mack expected.
In the second novella, “Strawberry Moon,” we meet Cody Wallace, a young death row inmate with only three hours left until his execution. Despite his lawyers’ efforts, the courts have ruled against him, and the governor has denied his request for clemency. As the clock ticks away, Cody makes a final request. This novella will keep readers on the edge of their seats as they wait to find out if Cody will receive a last-minute reprieve.
In the last and third novella, “Sparring Partners,” we meet Kirk and Rusty Malloy, two brothers whose father went to prison and left them a successful law firm. Although the brothers are successful lawyers, they do not get along and only communicate when it is necessary. As the business of the firm gets worse, Diantha Bradshaw, who is the only person the partners trust, is given the job of turning things around. But will she save the Malloys, or will she take a stand and save herself?
