Peace Talks – Dresden Files Book 16 – Jim Butcher

Peace Talks – Dresden Files Book 16: Butcher intensifies the tension for Harry Dresden. Butcher increases the pressure for Harry Dresden in this open-ended 16th episode of The Dresden Files urban fantasy series (after Skin Game).

The supernatural world has come together for a cease-fire, and Harry is selected to join the security team for the peace talks. Suppose Thomas Raith, Harry’s half-brother, is attempting to assassinate the Svartalves’ leader, among the other groups in the presence.

In that case, Harry comes under suspicion for his involvement in the alleged crime. With assistance from the vampire Lara Raith and human detective Karrin Murphy, Harry frees Thomas from prison and the threat of death. Harry discovers a new threat that could alter both the supernatural and mundane worlds in the process.

The beginning of the book is taken by background information, which can help newcomers navigate the Dresden world, while long-time readers will find the narrative boring. As Butcher is finally able to move the plot forward, the readers are blessed for their patience by the gritty worldbuilding of the novel and a flurry in dark comedy.

Unfortunately, the high-stakes mysteries established in the second act are mainly left unresolved, including why Thomas attempted to murder the Svartalves leader, making this feel more like a prologue to the next in the series than a self-contained narrative. Fans who are devoted will want to see the events at the conclusion carry on to the next volume. Agent: Jennifer Jackson, Donald Maass Literary.
