Fans of the long-running urban fantasy series might find the 15th instalment (after Cold Days) doesn’t do much to further the storyline overall. The plot is different; however, as always, the wizard who is now Winter Knight Harry Dresden must join forces with some stalwart allies and friends to defeat the evil forces as they embark on an impossible mission.
Dresden is ordered by his boss Mab, the queen of Air and Darkness, to join forces with Nicodemus, his long-time enemy Archleone, to break into the vaults of Hades.
A literal deus ex machina rescues both of them but is a shocking revelation of the parasite Dresden is carrying within the character, rather than eliciting admiration, is merely an elaborate plot to change the status quo of the series without altering the fundamentals of nature. Fans of the series can only hope to get a rush of adrenaline the next time around to revive the excitement and excitement of the initial Dresden books.
