About Harlan Coben
Harlan Coben is an American author of mystery novels and thrillers. His books have sold over 75 million copies worldwide and have been translated into 42 languages.
Coben was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. His father, an eye doctor, died when Coben was nine. His mother worked as a dental hygienist to support the family.
Coben attended Livingston High School, where he played varsity soccer and was captain of the tennis team. After graduating from high school, Coben attended Amherst College, where he majored in political science. He graduated from Amherst in 1986.
Coben’s first job after college was as a copywriter for an advertising agency. He then worked as a marketing executive for several different companies. In the early 1990s, Coben began writing novels in his spare time.
His first novel, Play Dead, was published in 1995. Since then, he has written twenty-seven books, including The Woods (2007), Hold Tight (2008), Caught (2010), Stay Close (2011), Six Years (2012), Missing You (2014), Fool Me Once (2016), Don’t Let Go (2017), and Run Away (2018).
In addition to his writing career, Coben is also an accomplished musician. He plays the guitar and sings in a band called The Harlenators.
Coben is married to Anne Armstrong-Coben, a pediatrician. They have four children and live in New Jersey.
